Ohio issues Wildlife Legacy Stamp
|The new Ohio Wildlife Legacy stamp features a brilliantly colored Baltimore oriole. The oriole image was selected during a 2009 photo contest. The photo was taken by Russell Reynolds, of Lima, Ohio. Another contest will be held this summer to choose the artwork for the 2011 stamp, which will feature either a dragonfly or damselfly.
The stamp is similar to the Ohio waterfowl stamp, using the same dollar bill size format on glossy, gummed paper. The stamp could be removed from the sheet if desired. Each stamp has a serial number in the lower right corner and the corresponding number is written on the envelope that contains the stamp, window cling and certificate.
The state of Ohio has done an excellent job on the stamp and the additional products that come with it. With your Legacy Stamp, you also receive a colorful window cling, a distinctive commemorative card suitable for framing and a certificate of appreciation.
The stamp is intended to raise money for habitat restoration, land purchases and conservation easements in the state. In addition, the funds will be used to keep common wildlife species common and to protect endangered and threatened native species.
