RW68 has Washington debut
|The First Day of Issue Ceremony for RW68, the 2001 federal duck stamp was held Friday, June 29, 2001, in Washington, D.C. A brief ceremony was conducted at the National Postal History Museum, followed by sale of the pressure sensitive (PSA) stamp only.
The stampís artist, Bob Hautman, was on hand to see his winning design become a stamp. It is the second time his artwork has appeared on a federal stamp, Hautman is also the artist for RW64, the 1997-98 federal duck stamp.
One of the souvenir cards issued this year by the Federal Duck Stamp Office is the Artistís Commemorative Issue, a card bearing the incoming and outgoing stamps, in this case, RW65 the 1998 stamp, and the 2001 stamp, both bearing the June 29, 2001 date. Only 500 cards were issued. Additionally, a generic appreciation certificate picturing both RW68 and the 2001 Junior Duck Stamp (JDS9) is available.
Our thanks to Dave Gallagher for providing first day event photos.
