Lawrence wins 2000 Michigan contest

The winning design for the 2000 Michigan Waterfowl Stamp competition was announced during the 4th annual Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Clinic sponsored by the Michigan Duck Hunters Association.

This year the selected species for the contest was the mallard. The winning design was by Rod Lawrence, of Kalkaska, Mich. This is the fourth Michigan stamp designed by Lawrence, whose artwork also graced the stamps in 1983, 1990, and 1995. Lawrence has also designed four Michigan Trout/Salmon stamps, and in 1995 was the artist for both the duck and fish stamps, the only time in Michigan history that one artist won both design contests in the same year.

The 2000 waterfowl stamps will go on sale in April. This will be the second year the program has been administrated by the Michigan Duck Hunters Association.

Michigan residents interested in the contest for the 2001 duck stamp should contact Mr. Bob Bissonette, MDHA Waterfowl Stamp Program Coordinator, 2451 Beech Dr., Kawkawling, MI 48621.
